Use Flex Spending to Benefit Your Eye Health | Long Island Eye Doctor

Use Flex Spending to Benefit Your Eye Health
Joel Kestenbaum, OD

December 1, 2014

With the holidays upon us we hope that everyone is well.  Our whole team at Optix wishes you a happy and healthy holiday season.  This past year has seen many new and exciting changes in our practice, from new technology to new members of our eye care team.

In 2015, we will be taking an exciting step in the world of eye care.  Our practice will be the first on Long Island to make Macular Densitometry part of our eye examination.  This cutting edge instrument gives our doctors insight into the relative health of the macula, the sight-sensing center in the back of the eye.  It measures the amount of macular pigment, low pigment being a modifiable risk factor for macular degeneration.  Our doctors are very excited to bring this new technology to our patients, greatly improving our ability to reduce our patients risk of developing the disease, even if you are in your twenties.

Many people don’t realize that vision or eye care benefits do not “carry over” into the next year.  Year after year, employees have monies withheld from their pay for their eye care, and yet many don’t fully utilize their flexible spending accounts (FSA) or their annual insurance benefits.  You will lose them if you do not use them before the end of the year.  Each December we get requests from patients to squeeze them in before year’s end.  In spite of our best efforts, we cannot always accommodate all of our patients with so little time remaining in the year.  Please do not let this happen to you.

If you have been fortunate enough to be healthy this year, you may still have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) that you must use before year’s end.  Everyone needs eye care to maintain healthy eyes and most people need eyewear to provide clear, comfortable vision.  An FSA can help reduce the costs.

An FSA can be used for:
Eye Examinations and Contact Lens Fittings
Eyeglasses
Sunglasses
Lasik (Laser Vision Correction)
Contact Lenses and Solutions
Prescribed oral supplements or vitamins

Come speak to our team at Optix Family Eyecare Center and make your eye care appointment early.  Let us help you maximize your benefits.
