Protect Your Eyes This Fourth of July | Long Island Eye Doctor
I’m sure you are just as excited as I am about this coming July 4th, where we celebrate our country’s independence with barbeques, sunshine, and fireworks! What do those three things have in common besides July 4th? That’s right they all need eye protection!
So whether you are grilling in your backyard, at the beach or gazing out at fireworks, you should have eye protection, in the form of sunglasses and glasses.
The smoke and heat from grilling hamburgers and hotdogs can get into your eyes if you do not have eye protection and this can cause them to burn, dry out and overall irritate your eyes. It goes without saying that sunglasses are important for blocking harmful UV light from your eyes, and lastly with fireworks, you always want to be careful around them, but definitely eye protection is important as there are harmful chemicals in fireworks!
So as the sunset rises and sets on this independence day, it is important to reflect on all of the sacrifices our forefathers made for our independence, and all of the brave men and woman who have served and are currently serving our country to sustain it. We also want to remember to take care of our eyes!
